We Believe in Restorative Practices Instead of Punishment

At M.S. 839, we believe that all people are uniquely valuable and all people deserve dignity and respect. We believe that all students deserve to learn and all teachers deserve to teach in an inclusive, safe and celebratory environment. We believe that harm to one is harm to all, and we respond to harm with compassion, generosity of spirit and opportunity for restoration. We approach problems with solutions, and work from strengths in order to grow. For us, restorative justice is a daily commitment all community members make in recognition that each of us have the capacity to be helpful, be kind and do good.
